Hot Air Steamers Win Inaugural MAF Blogger Shootout
Inaugural MAF Blogger Shootout Leading Bloggers in Supporting the Troops Sacramento, CA – The Hot Air Steamers, led by Ed Morrissey of HotAir.com, amassed a stunning total of $24,704.36 for care packages to win the first ever Blogger Shootout, a competition held in conjunction with Move America Forward’s Troopathon to raise money to send care packages to the troops. The Inaugural Blogger Shootout combined traditional fundraising strategy with new media to engage the blogosphere in a competition to drive care package sponsorship. Fifty-four blogs, organized on six teams, pushed their readers to sponsor care packages. “All of these blogs have done a great service to the men and women serving in the military,” said Melanie Morgan, who co-hosted the 8-hour telethon. The Hot Air Steamers amassed an impressive team roster, including: Hot Air, the Barton Bulletin, Ladies Logic, Leaning Straight Up, The Lonely Conservative, The Minority Report, Mitchell Blatt, No Sheeples Here, Political Pistachio, -S- Bird, Stix Blog Ver 3.0, and YIDwithLID. “Although the Hot Air Steamers won the Blogger Shootout, the real winners are the brave men and women of the U.S. Military. Because of these bloggers, hundreds of military men and women serving oversees will receive care packages and personalized letters of gratitude,” Morgan said. On June 25th, 2009, Move America Forward, the nation’s largest grassroots pro-troop organization, hosted its 2nd annual Troopathon. The event was hosted by Melanie Morgan, co-host of the syndicated radio show “America’s Morning News;” Andrew Breitbart, of Breitbart.TV and Big Hollywood; and former radio talk show host, Mark Williams. During the 8-hour event, broadcast via radio and the Internet, the show’s hosts and guests encouraged viewers to sponsor care packages for the troops.
In total, the Troopathon raised almost $700,000 to send care packages to the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
