We’ve Upped Our Goal Thanks to Your Support

Last week we raised our first $5,000 for this year’s Troopathon campaign! The goal of Troopathon is simple: Send care packages to our troops, as many as we can get sponsored in a single 6-hour show.

In our first year (2008) our inaugural program brought in over $1.5 million for care packages for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was the single largest shipment of care packages ever recorded. Over the past five years, our innovative webcasts have raised over $3.6 Million for our troops.

Since our organization began sending care packages in 2006, we’ve sent over 366 TONS of high quality beef jerky, Gatorade, cookies, gourmet coffee, and other great snacks and personal care items to our troops. But that’s just the beginning!

What makes Troopathon such a success, and an exciting event for our troops and our supporters, is the star power we bring out! In our Troopathons we’ve been proud to have welcomed such participants as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Mark Levin, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, Laura Ingraham, Jon Voight, John Ondrasik of the band Five for Fighting, Oliver North, Dick & Liz Cheney, Dr. David Horowitz, Carrie Prejean and many, many more!

So far we’ve raised about $5,450 towards our new $10,000 goal …please help us reach our first $10,000 goal by the end of this week! Our troops are counting on us!

You can also help by posting to your Twitter or Facebook and emailing this Troopathon information to your friends and family who are troop supporters!

Video Made with Military Working Dog Handlers at Travis AFB!

Last week MAF staffers had a rare opportunity to visit and talk with some actual military working dog teams today at California’s Travis Air Force Base. Communications Director Danny Gonzalez and Outreach Director Scott Raab spent the day taking a tour of the base kennels and training facilities where troops learn how to control and care for these highly trained k9 troops.

We’ve got a great 4-minute video that we shot last week during our visit to Travis AFB. Check it out and meet K9 soldier HUBA, a 4 year old German Shepherd:

MAF honors our four-legged troops with our K9 Care Package program, which we introduced in 2011 when we saw the importance of military dogs serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our K9 care package program remains strong and continues to grow!

These special K9 care packs include special items for a military working dog as well as food and personal care items for the dog handler, just like regular troop care packages.

The dog items are take center stage, with chew toys, dog treats, and protective “DOGGLES” K9 eye-protection.

We hope you will keep our military dogs in your thoughts and send a care package for them along with the rest of our brave troops on the front lines.
