Give From Your IRA and Support Our Troops
If you're 70½ or older, you can give to Troopathon straight from your IRA. It's called a qualified charitable distribution, or IRA charitable rollover. Your gift isn't counted as taxable income, and it can count toward your required minimum distribution for the year.
Tell Us About Your GiftHow It WorksWhy give from your IRA?
It isn't taxed as income
The money goes straight from your IRA to Troopathon, so it isn't added to your taxable income.
It can cover your RMD
If you have to take required minimum distributions (generally starting at age 73), your gift counts toward this year's.
You don't need to itemize
It works even if you take the standard deduction.
It sends care packages
88%+ of every dollar goes directly to supporting our troops.
Who can give from an IRA?
You must be 70½ or older on the day the gift is made. In 2026 you can give up to $111,000 this way (the IRS adjusts the limit each year). Traditional, rollover and inherited IRAs qualify. Your IRA custodian can tell you if your account does.
How do I give from my IRA?
- Contact your IRA custodian (the company that holds your IRA, like Fidelity, Schwab or Vanguard) and ask for a qualified charitable distribution to Troopathon. Many custodians have a form online.
- Give them our information:
Legal name: TroopathonThe check must be made payable to Troopathon, not to you. If the money is paid to you first, it doesn't count as a qualified charitable distribution.
EIN (tax ID): 84-1627277
Mail to: 3105 Fite Circle, Suite 108, Sacramento, CA 95827 - Tell us your gift is on its way. Custodians often send the check without your name on it. Fill out the short form below so we can thank you and send your receipt.

When is the deadline?
To count for this year, the money has to leave your IRA by December 31. Custodians can take a week or more, so start early in December or sooner.
Questions people ask
Does a qualified charitable distribution count toward my required minimum distribution?
Yes. If you have to take required minimum distributions (generally starting at age 73), the amount you give counts toward your RMD for the year, up to the amount you're required to take.
Can I give from my 401(k)?
Not directly. Qualified charitable distributions come from IRAs. Some people roll 401(k) money into an IRA first; your plan administrator or advisor can explain your options.
Will I get a receipt?
Yes. Once the check arrives and we know it's from you, we'll send a written acknowledgment for your records.
Can I give in honor or in memory of someone?
Yes. Note it on the form below and we'll record your gift in their name.
Is Troopathon a qualified charity?
Yes. Troopathon is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 84-1627277, supporting our troops since 2004. See our financial transparency page.
Troopathon can't give tax, legal or financial advice. Please talk with your financial advisor or IRA custodian about your situation.
